Jackie & Joe in Europe

Happy Halloween Everyone!!

I am of course still working on getting our website up to date (only one week behind at this point...) After our week with our first visitors, we decided to take the week pretty slow - so not much news to report. Joe is still busy with work during the week and readily hops into travel on the weekends. Besides the researching for our weekend travels, I continue to improve on my domestic skills of cooking. It has been fun since the ingredients here are pretty different from what we are used to in the states. A lot of my recipes have been useless as I was not able to find the ingredients in the markets or stores. I did get a great gift of measuring cups from Robyn and Steve, which has helped greatly since the metric system holds strongly out here I had to estimate using my milliliter measuring cups! I also found a store which has a section kind of like the ethnic sections in US grocers, but it had a lot of the ingredients that I have been searching for like: taco seasoning and tortilla shells and baking ingredients like baking soda, molasses, and crisco! To celebrate I made some ginger snaps and tacos, which turned out just like at home!

Well, fall has officially hit in Europe and for the weekend we decided to enjoy the fall weather. We hopped a two hour train to Luxembourg City and took a bus to the outskirts of the Luxembourg country side. There are (of course) plenty of photos of our hikes and travels. To take these photos a lot of energy was required and followed with plenty of soreness, so we hope you enjoy!

Happy Halloween!

Guten Tag, Hallo, Bonjour!

Well, we had a wonderful week as Joe's brother Steve and his fiance Robyn came to visit us! We had six full days of fun (although Joe had to work for three of them) with quite a jam packed itinerary. We spent the first few days sightseeing around Brussels and Bruge, Belgium. Then, a day trip to Cologne, Germany to see some lederhosen. Unfortunately there was no one sporting such apparel, but we atleast got to try some German food and drink and take in some sights. The next three days we rented a car and drove to Amsterdam for Joe and Steve's birthday. Driving there started off quite interesting with it being our first time driving and navigating on European roadways. But, we eventually got adjusted and ended up only getting off track a few times with no accidents! From Amsterdam we drove to Paris and spent two FULL days of sightseeing from the Mona Lisa in the Louvre Art museum to the Eiffel Tower and everything in between. Paris is an amazing city and we ended up with tons of great pictures. It definitely was a quick week, but we were so happy to have visitors and get to show them some of the great sites of Europe. Luckily Steve and Robyn brought awesome weather as we had temps in the high 60's and full sun every single day (which is definitely rare at this time of year for Europe).
Well, obviously there is quite a few pictures once again for your viewing pleasure. I tried to keep it to a minimum, but we had such beautiful days and great sites it was really hard to slim it down! So, hope you have some time to view our pictures of the week!

We hope this post finds everyone well and would love to hear from you and stay updated with all our amazing family and friends - we miss you all!!
Au revoir for now!

Bonjour!

I am still on my mission to get this website up to date on our travels/photos. This post dates back to our day trip to Gent, Belgium on October 8th. Just a 1-hour train ride northwest of Brussels is this compact flemish city full of medieval history. It is located at the junction of the Scheldt and and Leie Rivers. We really enjoyed this city and hope you enjoy the photos:

Bonjour from Belgium!
I am a little behind (as usual) in posting. Joe spent the first weekend in October in New York City to run the JP Morgan Chase World Championships. He ran well, considering we have been really busy here lately. The GE team took 5th place in the male team category, which they were happy with. In the meantime, I spent my first weekend alone in Brussels, which was strange. However, lucky for me, I have a friend of a friend who is super fun and outgoing, who also had some freetime that weekend. Needless to say, I wasn't so lonely. She had visitors from the US and invited me to tag along on a backyard Belgium tour of the southern countryside. We found some beautiful sites and had a great time. I have pictures to share if you have the time at the following location:

Otherwise, things continue to go well as we hit our one month mark - less than 5 months to go! It is really going fast and before we know it, we will be back home! So, it is my job to make sure that we are getting around Europe as much as possible! So far so good!

Thanks for checking up with us and we hope everything is going great for you as well!

Hi everyone!

Sorry to have taken so long to update the site. Things continue to go really well for us here. Joe is working hard, but not too many hours and I am still enjoying the Euro-lifestyle and getting ready for our first visitors next week! Robyn and Steve will be staying with us and we have quite a travel itinerary, so there will be more pictures and stories to share! We had quite a bit of travel the last week or so, with 6 days in Munich, Germany! Joe actually had to work there during the week, so we went on a Friday, enjoyed the sights of Munich and Oktoberfest, and Joe worked Monday through Thursday. While Joe worked, I spent time visiting castles and museums and really taking in the vast history of the city of Munich. If you have some time, I have posted some pictures of Munich, Oktoberfest, the Dachau Concentration Camp, and the Neuschwanstein Castle. You can find them at the following link:
