Jackie & Joe in Europe

Tuesday, September 20, 2005

Hi everyone!

Things here are still going well and we are absorbing as much of the history and culture here as we can. We continue to have great luck with meeting new people out here and are enjoying the worldwide network we are creating for ourselves! The weather unfortunately has turned right into fall, but we still get some pleasant days here and there. Joe continues to work at getting adjusted to the European work ethic, while I am slowly getting used to the home-maker and travel agent role (which isn't too terrible of a job when you are a visitor in Europe and have weekly maid service!). We spent our last weekend in Brugge, Belgium. This city is coined "The Venice of the North" due to the wonderful sights caught along this ancient city and it's canal system. We have posted some pictures if you'd like to check it out:

Here we are in front of the Mannekin Pis, the famous peeing boy who is a popular site of all Brusselians and visitors. Our new friend Dan, who went to the University of Wisconsin for one year, took our picture towards the end of a long, but fun day. We went to the Beer Festival at the famed Grand Place. This festival hosted 270 beers from 54 different brewers and a 30-cent fee for going to the restroom. The beer was delicious and strong, between 6 and 12% alcohol, ranging from light beers, dark beers and lambics (which is a little fruity), to name a few. Needless to say, we ran into some other American expats by the restroom (long line since there was only 3 rooms) and hung out with them for the rest of the night. They gave us some great advice, contact information and a group of non-working women for Jackie to hang out with.
